Kajima has a long history in Indonesia, dating back to the Japanese government’s projects carried out there as part of war reparations. Kajima has contributed to Indonesia’s modernization through the construction of dams, power plants, river works, and skyscrapers. In more recent years, KOA has begun to design and build large numbers of factories as Japanese firms have established a manufacturing presence in Indonesia. In addition, KOA has also branched out into the construction of hotels and condominiums. In real estate development, KOA is involved in ongoing development and operation of Senayan Square, one of the largest development projects in Asia.

The Senayan Square project was launched way back in 1989 as a mixed-use development on about 20 hectares in Senayan District, on the south side of the capital of Jakarta, with plans for a shopping mall, office buildings, luxury condominiums, and hotels. The shopping mall has become a local landmark since it opened for business over a decade ago in 1996. Development was interrupted for a time due to political instability, but the Plaza Senayan Arcadia commercial facility was completed in 2005, followed by the Sentral Senayan 2 office building in November 2007, and then renovation of the mall’s facade was completed in January 2008. In addition, the 28-story Sentral Senayan 3 is now in the planning stage (scheduled for completion in December 2010).

KOA took the lead for the Kajima Group in landing the project on a BOT basis. KOA is carrying out development, design, and construction, and has acquired 40-year operating rights from the government of Indonesia.

Construction
In addition to a series of construction projects connected with the Senayan Square project, KOA has also capitalized on the relationship of trust it has built up over the years with Japanese-affiliated companies by building a wide array of new factories and expanding existing ones.
