The Opening of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Orange Line in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

mapOn September 14, Orange Line of MRT system opened in Kaohsiung, which is Taiwan's second largest city. This new east-west subway line has a total of 14 stations and is 14.4 kilometers in length. This innovative subway line travels across the center of the city and takes passengers from Sizihwan Station to Taliao Station in less than half an hour.

In this memorable project, Kajima's joint venture constructed Formosa Boulevard Station, where the Orange Line intersects with the north-south Red Line and also part of tunnels on the Orange and Red lines. Kajima adopted Circular Continuous Wall Construction Method, by utilizing the shape of the intersection on the ground, and one of the world's largest circular, continuous walls was constructed with an inside diameter of 140 meters. This is the first instance where the Circular Continuous Wall Construction Method has been adopted in a major city around the globe.
